In 2021, the University of Tulsa chose Digital Wave to help them with their website redesign and evolution. They wanted to launch several improvements to the site before fall registration began, focusing on key pages for prospective students.
Before starting work, they needed to address critical issues making their site difficult to navigate and manage. The transition between sites was confusing, making it challenging for prospective students to navigate between the core university site and college subsites and to identify where they were within the site structure. UTulsa wanted to roll out high-impact updates on key pages quickly and then iteratively work on completing a cohesive new design later in the project.
Digital Wave took a phased approach, beginning by creating new menu protocols to immediately remove primary pain points for their users and recommending improvements to site organization and structure. This ensured consistent navigation and wayfinding on mobile and desktop views and helped clarify where users were and where they were going.
We prioritized designing updates to the framework and most critical pages while maintaining cohesion with parts of the site that may not be updated indefinitely. We then designed an entire library of templates and components for a rolling launch to provide evolutionary improvement. When the project is complete, UTulsa will have a brand-new website that was updated at a pace that worked for their team.
